Knowledge base for the Yanmar Ke series: Ke-1, Ke-1D, Ke-2D and Ke-3D — modern compact diesel tractors (approx. 2003–2006). The D stands for 4WD; the Ke-1 is the 2WD base model (the Ke-1D is officially type Ke-1 with specification Ke-1D). These models share one family, but differ in the engine: the Ke-1 and Ke-1D have the 3-cylinder Yanmar 3TN63 (600 cc, 63 mm bore, 12.5 hp; code UK3M for the 2WD and UK3S for the 4WD), the Ke-2D the 3TN66-UK3 (658 cc, 66 mm bore, 14 hp), and the Ke-3D the 3TNE68-UK3 (784 cc, 68 mm bore and a longer stroke of 72.3 mm, 15 hp). As a result, among other things, the head gaskets and pistons are not interchangeable between the three engine groups. The fluid specifications, however, are the same across the entire series: 2.2 l engine oil, 11 l transmission oil (TF-500, also used for hydraulics), 3.4 l coolant and 13 l fuel; the D models additionally have 2.4 l front axle oil (EP#90). All models feature a continuously variable no-clutch transmission, a Bosch injection pump, wet disc brakes, PTO 569/900 rpm (the D models also have a reverse PTO of 427 rpm), a 2-point lift system with automatic depth control, a safety frame, and a dashboard with tachometer, hour meter and fuel gauge — with pre-glow via the ignition switch. Here you’ll find, per topic, purchasing advice, technical specifications, maintenance schedules with adjustment values, oil and filter information, operation and pre-glowing, hydraulics/PTO and implements, fault diagnosis and storage — plus matching parts from Shop4trac. Please note: Yanmar also previously used the names Ke-2D and Ke-3D for an older generation (1990s: Ke-2A/Ke-2D(F/N/L), Ke-3A/Ke-3D(A/AU) and Ke-4A/Ke-4DA) with an 8-speed gearbox and dry plate clutch and the engines 3TN66-UNK, 3TNA68-UNK and 3TNA72-UNK — so always check the engine code on the type plate when ordering parts.
