Yanmar Ke Series Maintenance Schedule: All Intervals and Adjustment Values

A Yanmar Ke-1, Ke-1D, Ke-2D, or Ke-3D will last for decades with proper maintenance. This article lists the complete factory maintenance schedule for the Yanmar Ke series, including adjustment values — straight from the original manual.

Suitable for the entire series: Yanmar Ke-1, Ke-1D, Ke-2D, and Ke-3D. The intervals apply to all four models.

Yanmar Ke Series: The Break-in Period (First 50 Hours)

The first 50 operating hours are crucial for the machine's lifespan. During this period, avoid abrupt starts and hard braking, and don't overload the machine unnecessarily. At exactly 50 hours, perform the first major service: replace the engine oil, engine oil filter, transmission oil, transmission oil filter, and front axle oil (4WD).

Yanmar Ke Series Maintenance Schedule: All Intervals

Component Interval
Change engine oil First time after 50 hours, then every 100 hours
Replace engine oil filter At 50 hours, then every 300 hours
Change transmission oil (also hydraulic) At 50 hours, then every 300 hours; check level every 50 hours
Replace transmission oil filter At 50 hours, then every 300 hours
Change front axle oil (4WD) At 50 hours, then every 300 hours; check level every 50 hours
Clean fuel filter / replace element Clean every 50 hours (from 100 hours), replace element every 300 hours
Check / replace air filter element Check every 50 hours, replace every 300 hours
Coolant Check level before every workday; replace annually; clean radiator interior when replacing
Clean dust screen + cooling fins Every 50 hours (more often when working in dusty conditions)
Check V-belt (cooling fan) Every 100 hours; check new belt again after 50 hours
Battery: fluid level / specific gravity Check level before every workday; specific gravity + top-up charge every 100 hours
Grease all lubrication points Every 50 hours
Check fuel lines and connections Every 50 hours
Radiator and hydraulic hoses, fuel lines, wiring Replace every 2 years, even with low hours
Inspect steering mechanism and major bolts Every 100 hours
Check valve clearance and injectors At 600 hours (workshop)
Check alternator and starter motor Every 200 hours

Yanmar also recommends an annual maintenance service , preferably during the off-season. This should include points you can't check yourself (valve clearance, injectors, compression).

Yanmar Ke Series: Adjustment Values

  • Cooling fan V-belt: 10–15 mm deflection when pressing with a finger on the middle of the belt. Adjust by shifting the alternator (loosen the locking bolt). If the belt slips with the alternator at its outermost point, it needs replacing.
  • Steering play: 5–20 mm measured at the steering wheel rim. More play makes the tractor harder to steer and reduces tracking stability — have this adjusted at the workshop.
  • New parts: recheck a replaced V-belt after 50 hours and retighten if necessary.

Keep Fluids on Hand

For the schedule above, you'll need per service: 2.2 L engine oil, 11 L transmission oil, 2.4 L front axle oil (4WD), and 3.4 L coolant. You can find the correct specifications for each fluid in our article on engine oil and fluids for the Yanmar Ke series.
