Check the coolant for frost protection before the first frost. If the fluid freezes, the engine block or cylinder head can crack. The cylinder head in particular is already the weak point on these engines.
If the cooling system is contaminated or clogged, flush it before filling with new fluid. Also blow out the radiator core. A clogged radiator core, for example due to grass clippings, is one of the causes of overheating.
Tip: fill with Coolant 5 L (SKU-125001). The cooling system of the C142 and C144 holds 3.0 L. Flush a contaminated system first with Radiator Flush 250 ml (SKU-125007).
How much coolant do you need? 3.0 L for the C142 and C144, so a 5 L bottle is enough. For the C172 and C174, the capacity is not confirmed.
The general list can be found in the winterizing checklist for a compact tractor.
What do you measure on the glow plugs? Approx. 0.23 ohm each for the C142 and C144. Replace a defective glow plug with the Glow plug C142-C174 (SKU-551303-1).
Store the tractor in a dry place. Charge the battery or connect a trickle charger. If that is not possible, disconnect the negative terminal. Cover the exhaust.
After sitting idle for a long time, there may be water in the diesel. Therefore, fill the tank before storage and check the filter bowl. Long periods of inactivity can also cause the plungers of the injection pump to stick.
