Kubota B1-14 through B1-17: technical specifications at a glance

The technical specifications of the Kubota B1-14, B1-15, B1-16, and B1-17 are largely identical — they share the chassis, transmission, and hydraulics. The difference lies in the engine: the B1-14 and B1-15 have the Kubota D850, while the B1-16 and B1-17 have the larger D950. The figures below come directly from the original manuals.

Suitable for the entire series: B1-14, B1-15, B1-16, and B1-17, including the Zen-noh rebadges ZB1-14 through ZB1-17.

Kubota B1-14 through B1-17: engine specifications

Specification B1-14 / B1-15 B1-16 / B1-17
Engine type Kubota D850 Kubota D950
Design water-cooled 4-stroke 3-cylinder diesel engine water-cooled 4-stroke 3-cylinder diesel engine
Displacement 855 cc 927 cc
Bore × stroke 72 × 70 mm 75 × 70 mm
Maximum power 14.5 hp (B1-14) / 15.5 hp (B1-15) at 2600 rpm 16.5 hp (B1-16) / 17.5 hp (B1-17) at 2600 rpm
Fuel diesel; tank capacity 17 L diesel; tank capacity 17 L
Starting electric starter motor (12 V, 0.8 kW), automatic glow plug preheating electric starter motor (12 V, 0.8 kW), automatic glow plug preheating
Battery 12 V, 45 Ah 12 V, 45 Ah

Note the most important practical difference: because the bore differs (72 versus 75 mm), the head gasket, cylinder head, and pistons are not interchangeable between the D850 pair (B1-14/15) and the D950 pair (B1-16/17). The stroke is the same, however. So when ordering engine parts, it's essential to know whether you have a D850 or a D950.

Kubota B1-14 through B1-17: dimensions and weight

These measurements and weights come from the manual and apply without a mounted tiller. Two-wheel drive (2WD) is the baseline here; four-wheel drive (4WD/D/DB) is somewhat taller, has a different front track width, and is heavier (4WD weight listed separately). The M and MA versions weigh approximately 15 kg more.

Specification B1-14 B1-15 B1-16 B1-17
Length (without tiller) 2150 mm 2190 mm 2320 mm 2340 mm
Width (narrowest setting) 1055 mm (810) 1055 mm (810) 1150 mm (910) 1150 mm (910)
Height (2WD) 1235 mm 1245 mm 1235 mm 1240 mm
Wheelbase 1240 mm 1245 mm 1355 mm 1355 mm
Ground clearance (2WD) 285 mm 310 mm 305 mm 305 mm
Weight 2WD (without tiller) 545 kg 560 kg 645 kg 650 kg
Weight 4WD (without tiller) 550 kg 570 kg 690 kg 695 kg
Min. turning radius 1.65 m 1.65 m 1.75 m 1.79 m
Front tires (2WD) 4.50-10 4.50-10 4.00-12 4.00-12
Rear tires 8-16 8-18 8.3-20 8.3-22

The rear track width is adjustable (from approximately 810 mm). On the 4WD versions, the front tires are 5.00-12 and the front ground clearance is somewhat lower due to the driven front axle.

Kubota B1-14 through B1-17: transmission and PTO

The drivetrain is a non-synchronized gear transmission (selective sliding-mesh) with six forward and two reverse gears. The clutch is a dry single-plate type; the steering operates via a ball screw. The rear PTO has three speeds, rotates clockwise when viewed from the rear, and is driven via a 6-spline shaft of 35 mm. The PTO shaft is positioned at approximately 490 mm height (2WD) or 525 mm (4WD) on the B1-14/15, and approximately 435 mm (2WD) or 460 mm (4WD) on the B1-16/17.

Kubota B1-14 through B1-17: fluid capacities

These capacities come directly from the manual and are the same for all four models:

System Capacity
Fuel tank 17 L
Coolant 3.4 L
Engine oil 3.4 L (up to upper mark on dipstick)
Transmission/hydraulic oil 12 L
Steering housing ±0.2 L
Front differential (4WD) 1.5 L (D) / 2.5 L (DB)

The full breakdown with the correct oil types can be found in our blog about engine oil and fluids.

Parts tip: not sure whether you have a D850 or D950? The head gasket D850 (SKU-65019-1-51-3) fits the B1-14/15, the head gasket D950 (SKU-65019-1-44) fits the B1-16/17. Always order based on your engine type.
