Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Engine Oil and Fluids

Which engine oil and fluids belong in a Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 or MT240, and how much do you need? Below you'll find the correct types and quantities from the manual for the engine, transmission/hydraulics, front axle, and cooling system — plus the important warning about the wet brakes.

Suitable for the entire series: Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 and MT240 (all 4WD).

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Engine Oil

The S3L and S3L2 engines run on a diesel engine oil of API class CC or higher (CC/CD). The manual lists SAE 10W-30 as an all-rounder, and in warmer conditions SAE 20 or 30. In practice, a multigrade 15W40 is the most commonly used and perfectly suitable oil for this engine: we supply the correct 15W40 engine oil (API SG/CD)for this purpose, which fits the S3L and S3L2 without issue. The engine takes approximately 3.8 liters. Change the engine oil and oil filter for the first time after 50 operating hours, then every 100 hours.

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Transmission and Hydraulic Oil

On these tractors, the transmission and hydraulics share the same oil sump. Important: this housing also contains the wet disc brakes. Therefore, use a transmission/hydraulic oil of API GL-4 or higher that is suitable for wet brakes — using the wrong oil can cause the brakes to "chatter" or drag. We have the correct GL-4 transmission and hydraulic oil (UTTO/STOU)for this, which serves both the gearbox and the hydraulics. For this class, count on around 12 to 20 liters — always check the level using the dipstick. Change the transmission/hydraulic oil for the first time after 100 hours, then every 200 hours; the hydraulic filter for the first time after 100 hours, then every 300 hours.

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Front Axle Oil

Since all models are four-wheel drive, the front axle has its own oil bath. The manual specifies a gear oil of class API GL-3 SAE 80 for this, approximately 2.5 liters. We supply a suitable 80W-90 front axle oil (GL-4)for this. Change the front axle oil for the first time after 100 hours, then every 200 hours. This particular oil is often forgotten — always check it when buying a used tractor.

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Coolant and Fuel

Fill the cooling system with a long-life coolant (LLC / antifreeze) at the correct concentration for your climate — do not use tap or seawater. The capacity is 4.0 liters for the MT160/MT170 and 4.2 liters for the MT190 through MT240. Fill with regular diesel; in winter, choose a diesel with suitable cold properties (winter diesel) to prevent wax formation. The fuel tank is 18 liters (MT160–MT200) or 20 liters (MT220/MT240).

Overview of Oils and Fluids
