This page lists the specifications of the Hinomoto C142, C144, C172 and C174 together: engine, bore, displacement, power and overhaul dimensions for the CS86. The C142 and C144 feature a Toyosha CS86, while the C172 and C174 feature a Toyosha CS100.

Suitable for the entire series: Hinomoto C142, C144, C172 and C174. Each engine type is available as 2WD (C142, C172) and as 4WD (C144, C174).

|---|---|---|
| Drive | 2WD / 4WD | 2WD / 4WD |
| Engine | Toyosha CS86 | Toyosha CS100 |
| Bore x stroke | 70 x 75 mm | 73 x 80 mm (indicative) |
| Displacement | 865 cc | approx. 1.0 L (indicative) |
| Power (indicative, not from manual) | 17 hp gross | 19.7 hp gross, approx. 14.8 hp PTO |
| Sister model | Massey Ferguson 1010 | Allis Chalmers 5015, Deutz-Allis 5215, Simplicity 9518 |
The CS86 has a bore of 70 mm, while the CS100 has a bore of 73 mm (indicative). Therefore, head gaskets and piston rings are not interchangeable between these engines. Always order based on engine type.
The workshop manual covers the C142 and C144 completely. The C172 and C174 are not included. For the CS100, we therefore only provide the engine, bore, power, and the correct parts, and no capacities, adjustment values, or tightening torques. These have not been confirmed for the CS100. Therefore, always top up oil on the C172 and C174 using the dipstick. The number of gears for the C172 and C174 is indicatively 9 forward and 3 reverse.
Is the CS100 a larger CS86? 73 mm bore versus 70 mm and approx. 1.0 L versus 865 cc, so yes. The figures for the CS100 are indicative. Head gasket and piston rings are not interchangeable.

The engine has 4 main bearings. Bearings are available in standard, 0.25 and 0.50 mm undersize. Pistons and rings are available in standard and 0.5 mm oversize. Bore out if the cylinder is more than 0.15 mm out-of-round or tapered. Mount the piston with the notch on top pointing forward.
When should the cylinder be bored out? When out-of-roundness or taper exceeds 0.15 mm. Then install pistons and rings in 0.5 mm oversize.
Tip: piston rings for the CS86 can be found as Piston rings 70 mm C142/C144 (SKU-95087), and for the CS100 as Piston rings 73 mm C172/C174 (SKU-95046).
