Mitsubishi MT161–MT241 Transmission and Driving Speeds

The light group has a 6/3-speed gearbox (sliding gears), the heavy group an 8/8 gearbox (partly constant-mesh), and the MT241S a 12/8 gearbox with creep gear. Driving speeds range from 0.84 to approximately 14 km/h; the MT241S can creep from as low as 0.25 km/h. The clutch is a dry single plate, the brakes are wet disc brakes (in an oil bath) — which is why using the correct transmission oil is so important, see our oil and fluids blog.

Mitsubishi MT161–MT241 Tires and Track Width

Model Front tires Rear tires
MT161S / MT161 5-12 / 5.00-12 8-18 / 8.3-20
MT181 / MTZ18 / MTZ200 / MTZ20 6-12 8.3-22
MT201 / MTZ21 6-14 8.3-24
MT201W / MT221 / MTZ23 / MT241 6-14 9.5-22
MT241S 6-12 9.5-22

The rear track width is adjustable (810/960 mm for the light group, 880/1,030 mm for the heavy group, 940/1,090 mm for the MT241S) by reversing the rims.

Mitsubishi MT161–MT241 PTO and Lift System

Component Light group (S3L) Heavy group (S3L2)
PTO speeds 532 / 832 / 1,355 rpm 564 / 809 / 1,321 rpm
PTO reverse 898 rpm 1,042 rpm
PTO shaft JIS 35 mm
Lift control Position control (PAC/JAC/MAC versions)
Attachment 3-point linkage, JIS category 0

Note: the lowest PTO setting does not deliver an exact 540 rpm as with European tractors, but 532 and 564 rpm respectively at nominal engine speed. For most implements this difference is negligible. What you can practically drive with this power is explained in the blog about hydraulics, PTO, and implements.

Mitsubishi MT161–MT241 Electrical System

The series operates on 12 volts with negative earth. Fuses: 60A main fuse, 50A glow plug circuit, 20A, and a fuse box with 10A, 15A, and 20A blade fuses (with spare positions). Lighting: headlights 12V 35/35W, turn signals 12V 20W, dashboard lighting 12V 2W / 3.4W.

💡 Product tip: Engine due for an overhaul? For the S3L/S3L2 we supply individual piston rings (VAR-0022), a complete gasket set (SKU-65005) and even a full overhaul kit (VAR-0018).
