With the right maintenance schedule, a Mitsubishi MT161, MT181, MT201, MT221, MT241 or MTZ stays reliable for decades. These tractors often run for thirty years or more — the units that give trouble are almost always machines where basic maintenance was skipped. Below you'll find the complete factory schedule plus all adjustment values.
Suitable for the entire series: Mitsubishi MT161, MT161S, MT181, MT201, MT221, MT241, MT241S, MTZ18, MTZ20, MTZ200, MTZ21 and MTZ23.
Before starting, check: engine oil level, coolant level, fuel supply, tire pressure, battery fluid, clutch and brake pedal operation, and whether all bolts and nuts are tight. It may sound excessive, but especially with these older machines, a minute of checking prevents costly damage — an S3L running with too little oil or a clogged radiator suffers irreparable damage.

| Fuel hoses | Check / replace | Check before use, replace every 200 hours |
| Air filter element | Clean | Every 50 hours (in dusty conditions: before every use) |
| Radiator screen | Clean | Every 50 hours (in dusty conditions: before every use) |
| Coolant | Replace | Annually |
| V-belt | Check / tension | Every 50 hours |
| Transmission oil | Change | First time after 100 hours, then every 200 hours |
| Front axle oil | Change | First time after 100 hours, then every 200 hours |
| Hydraulic filter | Replace | First time after 100 hours, then every 300 hours |
| Grease nipples (pedals, tie rods) | Grease | Every 50 hours |
| Clutch pedal / brake pedals | Check free play | Before use, adjust if needed |
| Power steering hoses | Replace | Every 2 years (P versions) |
These are the factory values you need to perfectly adjust the clutch, brakes and V-belt yourself:
| Adjustment | Value | How |
|---|---|---|
| V-belt deflection | 10–13 mm at ±10 kg pressure applied to the center | Loosen the alternator mounting bolts, tilt the alternator outward to tension |
| Clutch pedal free play | 20–30 mm | Loosen locknuts (left-hand thread at front, right-hand thread at rear), turn the connecting rod |
| Brake pedal free play | 30–40 mm, equal on left and right | Loosen locknut, turn the brake rod in or out |
Important with the brakes: adjust both pedals to exactly match each other, then test with the pedals linked on a straight stretch. If the tractor pulls to one side when braking, readjust — unevenly braking pedals are downright dangerous when towing a trailer on the road. And don't tension the V-belt too tightly: that shortens the life of the water pump and alternator bearings.
The factory manual lists these original part numbers for the most common wear parts (for reference when ordering — always verify against your engine number):
| Part | OEM reference |
|---|---|
| V-belt | MD041704 |
| Engine oil filter | MD134953 |
| Fuel filter element | MM404879 (O-rings MM404881 / MM404878) |
| Air filter element | 1030-0511-200 |
| Hydraulic filter | 1032-2509-000 |
💡 Product tip: Ordering all filters at once saves on shipping costs and means you won't forget anything: Mitsubishi MT14–MT20 filter set (SKU-10007) or Mitsubishi MT21–MT26 filter set (SKU-10085). When changing the oil, also replace the copper drain plug ring (SKU-410052) — an often-overlooked cause of oil leaks.
