The filters on the Kubota GB13, GB14, GB15, GB16, GB18 and GB20 are the cheapest insurance against expensive engine damage. This article lists the correct replacement interval, procedure and matching part for each filter — based on the original Kubota instruction manuals.
Suitable for the entire series: Kubota GB13 (D9/DA5/N), GB14 (B9), GB15 (B9/S), GB16 (K/FK/H), GB18 (K/FK) and GB20 (K/FK).
| Filter | Interval | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil filter | First time after 50 hrs, then every 200 hrs | Screw-on filter M20×1.5 — replace along with the engine oil |
| Hydraulic oil filter | First time after 50 hrs, then every 200 hrs | Protects the lift, power steering and (on FK models) the hydrostatic transmission |
| Air filter | Clean every 100 hrs · replace annually or after 6× cleaning | Dry element — never oil it |
| Fuel filter | Replace every 400 hrs | Bleed after replacement |
Blow the dry element clean from the inside out with compressed air of no more than 0.69 MPa (7 bar), keeping the nozzle at a distance from the paper. Never tap it against a rim or workbench — a dented element lets dust through, and dust is the fastest way to blow up a diesel engine. At every service, also check the vacuator valve (the rubber spout at the bottom of the housing) and always fit the dust cover with the arrow pointing up. After six cleanings or one season, the element is worn out: replace it.
A clogged air filter shows up as power loss and black smoke under load — so check this filter first before suspecting the fuel pump.
The glass filter housing with element (OEM reference 6A320-59930 on the GB13–GB15) sits between the tank and the lift pump. Contamination or water in it causes the classic symptoms: poor starting, hesitation under load and stalling out of nowhere. Replace the element every 400 hours, clean the glass and check the O-ring — a worn O-ring draws in air and causes exactly the same symptoms as a dirty filter. After replacement, bleed the system; you can read how to do that in our troubleshooting guide for the GB series.
The individual fuel filter (SKU-150009, €6.50) fits the GB13, GB14 and GB15, as well as numerous other Kubota models.
The engine oil filter M20×1.5 (SKU-002/5, €8.95) fits the engines of the entire GB series (D722, D905 and related models). Lubricate the rubber gasket with fresh oil, tighten by hand plus a quarter turn, and check for leaks after a test run. For the GB16–GB20, the hydraulic filter (SKU-250003, €19.50) is also a 200-hour item; the smaller chassis likewise has a hydraulic filter plus a suction strainer in the transmission — replace and clean these during the 300-hour transmission oil change.
For the GB15, GB16, GB18 and GB20: the filter set with air filter, fuel filter and oil filter (SKU-10050, €34.50). Want to add oil right away? Then choose the oil filter + 5 L 15W-40 set (SKU-15W402/5, €39.50).
