Iseki TU167 operation and starting: how to do it right

Starting an Iseki TU167 (or TU147, TU157, TU177) seems simple, but especially in winter, the correct preheating time and warm-up time make a big difference to the lifespan of your engine. In this article, we go through the starting procedure and the dashboard warning lights step by step.

Suitable for the entire series: Iseki Landhope TU147, TU157, TU167 and TU177 (2WD and 4WD versions).

Iseki TU167 starting procedure

  1. Press the clutch pedal all the way down — without this, the starter motor won't engage, as this is a built-in safety switch.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the preheat position and hold it for the correct preheating time (see table below).
  3. Turn the key further to the start position until the engine starts. Release immediately once the engine is running.
  4. Let the engine warm up at idle before driving or putting load on implements (see warm-up times below).
  5. After starting, check that the oil pressure light and the charge light go out.

Iseki TU167 preheating times per temperature

Outside temperature Recommended preheating time
Above 5°C, or warm engine Preheating not necessary
5°C to -5°C Approximately 20 seconds
Below -5°C Approximately 30 seconds

Iseki TU167 warm-up times after a cold start

Outside temperature Recommended idle warm-up time
0°C and above 5-10 minutes
0°C to -10°C 10-20 minutes
-10°C to -20°C 20-30 minutes
Below -20°C 30+ minutes

Warning from the factory manual: putting a heavy load on the tractor too soon after a cold start can lead to seizing or damage to the hydraulic pump. So always give the engine time to warm up before using the lift or PTO.

Iseki TU167 dashboard warning lights

Light Meaning if it lights up while driving
Oil pressure light Too little engine oil, incorrect (too thin) oil viscosity, faulty pressure switch, faulty oil pump, or clogged oil filter element. Stop immediately and check the oil level.
Charge light Wiring fault, faulty alternator, faulty regulator, dead or faulty battery, or a loose/broken fan belt.

If one of these lights stays on after checking the most obvious cause (oil level or battery), please consult our troubleshooting page for the full diagnosis.

Shop4trac tip: is the ignition key no longer working, or is the key worn out? Check out the ignition key Iseki TU/TG/TA series (€9.50). If you suspect an issue with preheating, the glow relay Mitsubishi K3A-K3D (€34.50) is often the cause when preheating no longer works (properly), but also check the glow plugs Iseki TU Landhope 150-177 (€19.50) yourself.
