Iseki TU167 hydraulics and PTO: what can you realistically do with it?

The Iseki TU167 (and the TU147, TU157, TU177) has a power take-off (PTO) and a lift system that let you drive and raise implements. But what can you realistically do with 14.5 to 17.5 hp? In this article, we explain the technology and give concrete implement examples per model.

The PTO shaft has a spline size of 35mm on all models.

Iseki TU167 lift system

All models are equipped with a lift system with position control and a rotary 2-point (2P) mount. Position control means the implement returns to the same height setting you configured, which is useful for repeated work such as plowing or tilling at a fixed depth.

Iseki TU167: PTO power versus pulling power in plain terms

A common misconception is that engine power in hp directly tells you how heavy an implement can be. In practice, there are two separate factors that matter:

  • PTO power: this determines how much force a driven implement (tiller, flail mower, seeder) can handle. The higher the PTO speed and power, the heavier and wider the implement can be without the engine "bogging down".
  • Pulling power: this determines how much you can tow or push (a trailer, a non-driven plow, a snow blade). This depends more on weight, tires, and four-wheel drive than on pure engine horsepower.

For a lightweight TU147, this means you can easily drive a small flail mower or light tiller, but a heavy tiller or reel mower will overload the engine. For a TU177 with more power, you can go one step heavier.

These are indications based on the engine and PTO specifications; actual load capacity also depends on soil condition, implement condition, and whether you have 2WD or 4WD.

Shop4trac tip: going to drive an implement via the PTO? Check the PTO drive shaft (€72.50) for wear in the universal joints — a worn drive shaft is a common cause of vibrations during PTO use. If you notice the hydraulic pressure isn't building up, the hydraulic pump Iseki TX/TU (€238.50), explicitly fitting the Landhope TU127/137/147/157/167/177, is the part to check.
