Hinomoto C142 to C174 filter kit

A filter kit is available for the C142, C144, C172, and C174. You can see which filters are included on the product page.

Tip: the Filter kit C142-C174 (SKU-10035) fits the C142, C144, C172, and C174.

Replacing the Hinomoto C142 to C174 hydraulic filter

The transmission, rear axle, and hydraulics share the same oil. Therefore, the hydraulic filter also filters the transmission oil. On the C142 and C144, the filter is located on the left side of the transmission housing. There is no separate screen in the system, only this spin-on filter.

  1. Lower the 3-point hitch and drain the oil. You should change the oil at the same time as the filter.
  2. Coat the sealing ring of the new filter with clean oil.
  3. Tighten the filter by hand.
  4. Top up to the dipstick level, with the tractor on level ground and the hitch lowered.

How often should you replace the hydraulic filter? After the first 50 hours and then every 200 hours. On Japanese imports, the transmission oil and hydraulic filter have usually never been replaced.

The Hydraulic filter (SKU-250014) fits the C142 to C174 according to the product page.

Hinomoto C142 to C174 fuel filter and filter glass bowl

Check the filter glass bowl daily. If there is water in it, drain it. Replace the fuel filter every 200 hours. A separate glass housing is available for a damaged bowl.

Fuel flows to the pump by gravity. A dirty filter is one of the causes of an engine stalling on a slope or when fuel is low.

When should you replace the fuel filter? Every 200 hours. Check the filter glass bowl daily for water.

Hinomoto C142 to C174 air filter

The workshop manual does not specify an interval for the air filter. A dirty air filter is one of the causes of black smoke and low power. Therefore, check it regularly. See Air filter individual (SKU-200001).

Bleeding the Hinomoto C142 to C174 after a filter change

Bleed the fuel system after changing the filter. Never start the engine with air in the system, as this will damage the injection pump.

  1. Fill with clean diesel and open the valve on the filter.
  2. If the glass bowl does not fill up, loosen it slightly until it fills.
  3. Loosen the bleeding screw on the injection pump by 1.5 to 2 turns. Never unscrew it completely.
  4. Let it run until no more bubbles appear and tighten the screw.
  5. Start at half throttle.

If it still does not start, read the full procedure in Starting, preheating, and bleeding the Hinomoto C142 and C144.
