Yanmar F210H & F250H Winter Storage: How to Store Your Tractor Properly

Winterizing and Storing the Yanmar F210H/F250H: How to Do It Right

A Yanmar F210H or F250H that sits idle for months deserves proper preparation — otherwise spring starts with a dead battery, a stuck clutch, or rust in the tank. The original manual (ON03-00616) devotes a chapter to this. Here are the steps, supplemented with practical tips for our damp winters.

Applies to the Yanmar Forte F210H and F250H; the manual-shift versions are stored the same way.

Yanmar F210H/F250H after every workday

Wash the tractor clean and dry it the same day. Don't aim the water jet — especially a pressure washer — directly at electrical components, sensors, or the dashboard. After washing, grease the lubrication points and oil the hinge points; washing also rinses away the grease. If you cover the machine with a tarp, only do so once the engine and exhaust have fully cooled down.

Storing the Yanmar F210H/F250H long-term: step-by-step plan

  1. Fill the fuel tank completely. A half-full tank condenses on the inside, and that water causes rust and starting problems. Then set the fuel valve to "C" (closed).
  2. Change fluids in good time. If an oil change is due soon, do it before storage — old oil contains acids that damage the engine internally.
  3. Check the coolant. Sufficient antifreeze concentration prevents frost damage to the block and radiator. Replace the coolant annually.
  4. Remove the battery. Store it somewhere frost-free and recharge it every month. In any case, remove the key from the ignition.
  5. Lock the clutch pedal in the depressed position. The manual explicitly prescribes this: it prevents the clutch plate from rusting to the flywheel over winter — a classic spring problem with tractors that have been standing idle.
  6. Relieve the load on the machine. Remove front weights and detach the mower, or lower the implement all the way to the ground (or onto boards). This keeps the lift and tires from being under strain for months.
  7. Grease bare metal parts. Treat lift rods, pins, and other bare-metal parts with acid-free grease or rust-preventive oil.
  8. Store in a dry, ventilated place. A damp, sealed shed is worse than a drafty open barn. Preferably place the machine on boards or a hard-paved floor.

Putting the Yanmar F210H/F250H back into use after winter

Before the first start, check: oil level, coolant, tire pressure, battery (reinstall fully charged, positive cable first), fuel valve open, and the fuel filter housing for water. Let the engine warm up gently — at least 5 minutes, and at least 10 minutes below 0°C — before starting work. Then check that the brakes (25–35 mm play) and clutch (15–25 mm) are still properly adjusted.

Product tip: if you're planning the oil change before storage, order the 15W40 engine oil (SKU-15W40) and the fuel filter (SKU-150007) at the same time — a fresh fuel filter in spring prevents most starting issues after downtime. See also our filter guide for the F210H/F250H.
