Which engine oil should go into a Yanmar F210H or F250H, and how much? The original manual (ON03-00616) is clear about this. In this overview you'll find all fluids, specifications, and fill quantities for both models — plus the change procedure for each system.
Applies to the Yanmar Forte F210H and F250H (HST); fill quantities for the gear-shift versions may differ.
| System | Specification (manual) | F210H | F250H |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel | Diesel oil; winter diesel below −10 °C | 18 l | 22 l |
| Engine oil | SAE 10W-30, API CC or higher | 3.6 l | 3.6 l |
| Transmission / hydraulics / power steering | Yanmar TF500 transmission oil (UDT type) | 23.5 l | 23.5 l |
| Front axle | Same TF500 transmission oil | 3.2 l | 3.4 l |
| Cooling system | Coolant/antifreeze (permanent type, LLC) | 3.6 + 0.4 l | 3.6 + 0.4 l |
| Grease fittings | Multipurpose grease (EP2) | — | — |
The manual specifies a 10W-30 for the engine with a minimum API CC quality rating. Modern diesel oils comfortably meet this standard; a universal 15W40 (API CD/SG) is also a common choice for these engines at temperatures above freezing. If you do a lot of cold starts in winter, stick with 10W-30.
The dipstick is located to the right of the engine block; always check the level before starting or when the engine is cold. Draining is done via the drain plug at the bottom of the sump, and refilling via the fill opening on the engine up to the upper mark on the dipstick. Interval: first change after 50 hours, then every 100 hours. Replace the oil filter cartridge every 300 hours (i.e., every 2 to 3 oil changes): loosen with a filter wrench, lightly oil the rubber seal of the new cartridge, and fit hand-tight. Afterwards, run the engine until the oil pressure light goes out and check the level again.
A distinctive feature of this series: a single 23.5-liter oil supply lubricates the transmission and feeds the HST, the hydraulic lift, and the power steering. The manual therefore explicitly specifies genuine TF500 transmission oil (or an equivalent UDT transmission oil) — not regular engine oil or HY oil. The dipstick is located between the step treads. Draining is done at two points: the plug at the lower left of the transmission housing (near the 4WD drive) and the plugs at the bottom of the left and right rear axles. Drain while the transmission is warm, so dirt is carried out with the oil. Refill via the fill opening on top of the center plate. With every change (every 300 hours, first time after 50 hours), also replace the transmission oil filter and the HST oil filter, and clean the magnetic strainer at the rear of the transmission housing.
The front axle (4WD) has its own oil system: 3.2 liters (F210H) or 3.4 liters (F250H), also TF500. Check the level using the cap/dipstick at the top right of the front axle (do not screw the dipstick in while checking). Draining can be done at three points: in the middle under the axle, and left and right under the final drives. Same interval as the transmission: first time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours.
Check the level in the expansion tank daily (between the FULL and LOW marks), and never open the radiator cap when the engine is warm. Replace the coolant annually: remove the radiator cap, open the drain valve under the radiator, flush the system, and refill with a permanent coolant (LLC) at the correct mixing ratio for our winters. The system holds 3.6 liters plus 0.4 liters in the expansion tank.
Product tip: our 15W40 engine oil in a 5-liter package (SKU-15W40) is suitable for these Yanmar diesel engines; with 3.6 liters per change, you'll have some left over for topping up in between. For the matching filters, check our filter guide for the F210H/F250H.
