The Yanmar F210H and F250H have more filters than many owners think: in addition to the oil, fuel and air filter, the HST versions also have a transmission oil filter, an HST oil filter and an oil strainer. This overview — based on the original manual (ON03-00616) — shows which filter is located where, what it does, and when to replace it.
Applies to the Yanmar Forte F210H and F250H; the gear-shift versions F-190 through F-250 do not have an HST oil filter.
| Filter | Interval (manual) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil filter (cartridge) | First time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours | Every 2nd to 3rd oil change |
| Fuel filter (element in filter housing) | Clean every 50 hours, replace element every 300 hours | Bleed the fuel system after replacement |
| Air filter element | Clean every 50–100 hours, replace every 400–450 hours or annually | More often when working in dusty conditions |
| Transmission oil filter (line filter, cartridge) | First time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours | Replace at every transmission oil change |
| HST oil filter (cartridge) | First time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours | Only on the H models |
| Oil strainer with magnet | Clean at every transmission oil change | Remove metal shavings from the magnet |
The fuel filter is located under the glass/plastic filter housing near the fuel valve. Turn the valve to "C" (closed), unscrew the housing and remove water and dirt. Replace the element yourself every 300 hours. Then turn the valve back to "O" (open) and bleed the fuel system according to the manual. Water in the filter housing is normal for machines of this age after damp storage — so check the housing visually every 50 hours.
The air filter protects the cylinder liners and piston rings from dust. Remove the cover, take out the element, blow it out from the inside with compressed air or tap it out carefully — without damaging the filter pleats. According to the manual: clean every 50 hours and replace every 400 hours when working in dusty conditions; under normal conditions, clean every 100 hours and replace at least annually. Don't forget the pull-out dust screen in front of the radiator either: pull it out and wipe it clean before and after work.
Both are cartridge filters that you loosen counterclockwise with a filter wrench, just like an oil filter. Lightly oil the rubber ring of the new cartridge, tighten it hand-tight, let the engine idle to circulate the oil, and then correct the transmission oil level. A neglected HST filter is a common cause of sluggish or "whining" HSTs in imported machines — if in doubt, replace it right away along with the oil.
Parts tip: for a complete service, order everything at once with the Yanmar Forte F180–F250 filter set (SKU-100173): oil filter, fuel filter and air filter, cheaper together than separately. Prefer individual filters? Then take a look at the air filter (SKU-20017), the hydraulic/transmission filter for the F210 and F250 (SKU-250002) and the fuel filter (SKU-150007). Please note: the F series was produced with both a 35 mm and a 55 mm fuel filter — measure your current filter before ordering. Not sure? Send us a photo and we'll take a look.
