Which engine oil goes into the Yanmar Super Forte AF-22 to AF-33, and how much? Below are all oil types and exact capacities for the engine, transmission, front axle, and cooling system — straight from the Yanmar manual, so that when servicing you use exactly the right amount and the right type.
Suitable for the entire series: Yanmar Super Forte MARK III AF-22, AF-24, AF-26, AF-28, AF-30 and AF-33.
The engine oil capacity is the same for all six models (4.0 liters). The transmission and front axle capacities increase slightly with the size of the tractor, so check the correct column for your model.
| Fluid | AF-22 / AF-24 | AF-26 / AF-28 | AF-30 / AF-33 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 4.0 L | 4.0 L | 4.0 L |
| Transmission oil | 38.0 L | 37.0 L | 40.0 L |
| Front axle | 4.0 L | 5.3 L | 5.6 L |
| Coolant (radiator) | 6.0 L | 6.0 L | 6.0 L |
| Coolant (sub-tank) | 0.45 L | 0.45 L | 0.45 L |
| Fuel tank (diesel) | 38.0 L | 38.0 L | 38.0 L |

Yanmar specifies an engine oil of API class CC or CD . Choose the viscosity based on the outdoor temperature: in a temperate climate, a 15W-40 is an excellent all-round choice that can be used year-round. In consistently hot weather, you can switch to a thicker grade (for example SAE 30), and in severe frost to a thinner one (for example 10W). Change the engine oil together with the oil filter — changing only the oil while leaving the old filter in place will immediately contaminate the fresh oil again.
The transmission of the AF series shares its oil with the hydraulics and power steering. For this, use a transmission fluid of the TF-500 type (or an equivalent tractor transmission/hydraulic oil). The same type of oil is used for the front axle. Do not use regular engine oil in the transmission — the wet brakes and hydraulics specifically require this transmission fluid.
For cooling, use a long-life coolant (LLC / antifreeze) at the correct mixing ratio; the standard mix is effective down to about -10 °C, and in more severe frost you increase the antifreeze proportion. Keep the sub-tank (expansion tank) level between the markings. Fill up with regular diesel (gas oil); at temperatures below -10 °C, use winter diesel to prevent the fuel from clouding and clogging the filter.
Have you just bought an AF series tractor and don't know when the oil was last changed? Then an oil system flush before the first oil change is a small effort that pays off significantly. After years of short trips and standstill, sludge often builds up in the oil channels and the filter mesh; a flush loosens this before it damages the oil pump or camshaft.
