Good maintenance keeps a Yanmar EG220, EG224, or EG230 reliable for years to come. This is the complete maintenance schedule from the original factory manual, including all adjustment values and the fuse layout.
Suitable for the entire series: EG220, EG222, EG224, EG227, and EG230 — including the Q (cabin), U (Nicety UFO), X (J-change), and J (high speed, including EG227J and EG230J) versions.
| Component | Interval |
|---|---|
| Change engine oil | first time after 50 hours, then every 100 hours (or annually) |
| Replace engine oil filter | first time after 50 hours, then every 200 hours |
| Change transmission oil | first time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours (check level in between) |
| Replace line filter (transmission/hydraulics) | every 300 hours |
| HST oil filter (J-change only) | every 300 hours |
| Change front axle oil | every 300 hours (check level every 50 hours) |
| Drain/clean water separator | every 100 hours (check daily) |
| Replace fuel filter element | every 300 hours |
| Air filter element | clean every 50 hours, replace every 300 hours (at least once a year) |
| Coolant | check level before each use, replace annually |
| Clean radiator screen | every 50 hours (more often when working in dusty conditions) |
| Grease all lubrication points | every 50 hours, and always after wet work |
| Check V-belt (cooling fan) | every 100 hours (new belt: retension after 50 hours) |
| Check battery | every 100 hours |
| Fuel lines and power steering hoses | check every 50 hours; replace every 2 years |
| Retighten wheel bolts | first time within 10 hours, then every 100 hours |
The manual also prescribes an annual check, even if the operating hours don't reach the intervals. Rubber hoses and fuel lines should be replaced every two years regardless.
These values come directly from the factory manual and apply to the entire series:
| Adjustment | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Brake pedal play | 25 – 35 mm | adjust left and right equally (keep the maximum difference as small as possible) |
| Clutch pedal play | 15 – 25 mm | adjust with the turnbuckle, retighten the lock nut |
| V-belt deflection | 10 – 15 mm | press with finger (± 10 kg); tension via the alternator |
| Compressor belt (cabin) | 10 – 15 mm | Q version with air conditioning only |
| Front wheel toe-in | 1 – 8 mm | rear measurement minus front measurement; adjust via the tie rod end |
The fuse box is located under the dashboard; always use the specified amperages (including 5 A, 10 A, 15 A, and 20 A for starter, horn, fuel shut-off, meter, work light, reverser, UFO, turn signal, and headlights). In addition to the regular fuses, there's a fusible link (main fuse); a discolored sleeve indicates it has blown. Never replace a fuse that keeps blowing with a heavier one — instead, have the cause checked.
Every 50 hours, grease all lubrication points: the pedal shafts, the steering rods, and the front axle support points. If you're working in mud or water, pump fresh grease through immediately afterward so that dirt and water are pushed out.
💡 Product tip: planning a major service? Combine a fresh engine oil filter, a new air filter and engine oil — that way the service is done in one go. If the cooling fan belt is stretched or frayed, replace it right away with the V-belt A39 (fits the entire EG series).
