Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Maintenance Schedule and Adjustment Values

A Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 or MT240 will last for decades, provided you follow the maintenance schedule. On this page you'll find the complete maintenance intervals and adjustment values from the original manual: how often to change oil, filters and fluids, and how to set the V-belt, clutch, steering and tyres to the correct values.

Suitable for the entire series: Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 and MT240 (all 4WD).

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Maintenance Intervals

The manual works with fixed intervals based on operating hours. The first service is especially important: on a new or recently overhauled tractor, the oil and filters need to be refreshed early.

Component 1st time Then every
Engine oil after 50 hrs 100 hrs
Engine oil filter after 50 hrs 100 hrs
Clean fuel filter 50 hrs (replace ± 200 hrs)
Clean air filter regularly / when dirty
Clean radiator screen regularly
Transmission oil after 100 hrs 200 hrs (check level every 50 hrs)
Front axle oil (4WD) after 100 hrs 200 hrs
Hydraulic filter after 100 hrs 300 hrs
Coolant (LLC) check level daily, replace periodically

Check the engine oil level, coolant level, tyre pressure and V-belt tension daily before use. The heavier models have an engageable front axle, but on all models the front axle oil remains a fixed part of the schedule — don't skip it.

Mitsubishi MT160–MT240 Adjustment Values

With these values from the manual, you can set the tractor precisely again. Always make adjustments with the engine off and the tractor on level ground.

Component Adjustment value
V-belt (fan belt) deflection 10–13 mm under finger pressure at the middle of the belt
Clutch pedal free play 20–30 mm
Steering play (mechanical) 120–150 mm
Steering play (power steering) 40–70 mm
Tyre pressure front / rear 1.2 / 1.0 kg/cm² (front loader: front 2.5)
Safety frame bolt torque M10: 4.0–4.5 · M12: 8.5–9.5 · M14: 15.0–17.0 kgf·m
Valve clearance / injector pressure have this adjusted at a workshop

You adjust the V-belt by loosening the alternator mounting bolts and tilting the alternator outward for more tension (inward for less), then retightening the bolts. Clutch play is adjusted via the adjuster with lock nut. Valve clearance and injector pressure are workshop jobs: these are not listed as separate values in the operator's manual, and if in doubt, have them checked using the service manual.

💡 Shop4trac tip: A stretched or hardened V-belt reduces both the charging current and the water pump circulation — a hidden cause of overheating. Check out the V-belts for mini tractors and set the deflection to 10–13 mm after replacement. Match the size to your engine (S3L or S3L2).

Getting the Major Service Right in One Go

Want to clear a backlog of maintenance in one go? Then replace the engine oil and oil filter, the fuel and air filter, the transmission and hydraulic oil, the front axle oil and the coolant all at once, and readjust the V-belt, clutch and steering. We have the right oils in stock: 15W40 engine oil, GL-4 transmission/hydraulic oil and 80W-90 front axle oil. You can get the filters affordably with the filter set for the MT series. If the tractor sometimes runs hot, be sure to also get a new water pump and thermostat at the same time. You can read exactly which types of oil and quantities you need in the article on engine oil and fluids.
