Iseki TU1400-TU1601: Winterizing and Storage
Not going to use the tractor for more than 2-3 months? Then follow the steps below from the factory manual — they apply to the entire series, both 00 and 01 generations.
Suitable for the entire series: Iseki TU1400, TU1400F, TU1500, TU1500F, TU1600, TU1600F, TU1401, TU1401F, TU1501, TU1501F, TU1601, TU1601F.
Before Storage
- Clean the tractor thoroughly and check for any damage you might otherwise overlook.
- Don't just drain the coolant: use long-life coolant (LLC) so you don't have to drain it. If there's no antifreeze in the system, drain the coolant completely to prevent frost damage.
- Change the engine oil after the last use (not before) — contaminated oil damages seals and bearings during prolonged downtime.
- Grease all lubrication points.
- Set the tire pressure to the standard value (see our maintenance page) and, for extended storage, it's best to place the tractor on axle stands to prevent flat spots on the tires.
- Press the clutch pedal and lock it with the cut-off rod, so the clutch remains fully disengaged. This prevents the clutch discs from sticking to the flywheel or pressure plate during long periods of inactivity.
- Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture, but preferably don't store it on a damp surface.
- Start the engine periodically (for example, monthly) and let it run for 5-10 minutes at 1000-1500 rpm to keep the engine internally dry and lubricated.
Returning to Use After Storage
- Check the engine oil and coolant levels.
- Fill up with fresh diesel if the tank has been empty for a long time or contained old diesel, and bleed the fuel system if necessary.
- Check the battery voltage and recharge if necessary.
- Check the tire pressure.
- Check the V-belt for deflection (10-12 mm) and cracks.
- Unlock the clutch (remove the cut-off rod) before starting.
- Let the engine warm up unloaded for the first few minutes before starting work.
Tip: a tractor that has been stationary for a long time without antifreeze in the cooling system runs the highest risk of a cracked block at the first frost. Not sure about the condition of your coolant? We stock the complete water pump and matching gaskets, should any damage have occurred.
