Iseki TU1400-TU1601: operation, starting and preheating

Iseki TU1400-TU1601: operation and starting

The operation of the Iseki TU series is identical for both generations. Below is the official starting procedure from the factory manual, plus the preheating times per outdoor temperature.

Suitable for the entire series: Iseki TU1400, TU1400F, TU1500, TU1500F, TU1600, TU1600F, TU1401, TU1401F, TU1501, TU1501F, TU1601, TU1601F.

Starting procedure step by step

  1. Set the fuel cock to "open".
  2. Set the main gear lever to neutral.
  3. Set the PTO lever to neutral (N).
  4. Set the hydraulic lift lever to the lowest position, so the implement lowers.
  5. Pull the throttle lever fully towards you.
  6. Insert the key in the ignition and turn to "ON". Check that the oil pressure lamp and the charge lamp light up.
  7. Turn the key to the glow position ("GLOW"). Release as soon as the glow indicator lamp glows red.
  8. Press the clutch pedal fully down — without this the engine will not start (safety switch).
  9. Turn the key to "START". Release the key immediately once the engine starts; it will automatically return to "ON".

Preheating times per temperature

Outdoor temperature Preheating time
5°C and above approx. 10 seconds
5°C to -5°C approx. 20 seconds
-5°C and below approx. 30 seconds

If the engine is still warm (for example after a short stop), preheating is not necessary.

Main levers

  • Throttle lever: controls the engine speed, separate from the clutch pedal.
  • Clutch pedal: dry single-plate diaphragm clutch; pressing fully down disengages the drive.
  • P.T.O. lever: engages the PTO shaft at 3 speeds (513 / 759 / 1229 rpm) or neutral.
  • Hydraulic lift lever (position control): between the highest and lowest position, you can have the implement stop at any desired position.
  • Slow return valve: controls how quickly the implement lowers; closing it fully locks the hydraulic pressure.
  • Differential lock (defrock pedal): only use when driving straight ahead, not while steering.

Stopping the engine

Return the throttle lever completely to idle, let the engine idle unloaded for a few minutes (especially after heavy work, to allow the turbo pressure/temperature to drop gently), then turn the key to "OFF". Always apply the parking brake.

Doesn't start right away? For a tractor that has been standing idle for a long time, air in the fuel system is the most common cause. See our troubleshooting blog for the complete diagnosis.
