Iseki TM15 & TM17 Engine Oil & Fluids

Iseki TM15 & TM17 engine oil & fluids: all fill capacities

Which engine oil goes in the Iseki TM15 or TM17, and how much? In this blog you'll find all fluids with fill capacities and oil types, straight from the original Iseki factory manual — plus practical advice on modern, available alternatives to the original Iseki oils.

Suitable for the entire series: Iseki TM15 and TM17, all versions. The fill capacities are the same for both models (exception: the U version, see table).

Iseki TM15 & TM17 fill capacities

Fluid Capacity Factory specification
Fuel 13.5 liters Diesel fuel (winter grade in freezing conditions)
Engine oil 2.7 liters Iseki diesel engine oil
Cooling system (radiator) 5.0 liters Water + antifreeze (LLC / long-life coolant)
Transmission / hydraulics 13.5 liters (U version: 14 liters) Iseki Multi Deluxe oil #80
Front axle (4WD) 2.7 liters Iseki Multi Deluxe oil #80
Steering gearbox Top up to level Iseki Multi Deluxe oil #80
Grease nipples As needed Lithium universal grease

Iseki TM15 & TM17 engine oil: which one to choose today?

The original "Iseki diesel engine oil" is no longer commonly available in Europe. As practical advice (not a factory specification): a classic mineral diesel oil 15W-40 with API CD/CF quality or higher suits these 1990s engines well. If used consistently in freezing conditions, choose a 10W-30. Replace the engine oil for the first time after 50 hours, then every 100 hours — this interval is shorter than on modern tractors, but the sump is small (2.7 liters) and the oil works hard in this small diesel engine. Replace the oil filter after the first 50 hours and then every 300 hours.

Iseki TM15 & TM17 transmission and hydraulic oil: one system

Important to know: on the TM series, the transmission oil is also the hydraulic oil. The lift mechanism draws its oil directly from the transmission housing, via a suction filter. This has two practical consequences. First: use an oil suitable for both tasks — the factory specification is Iseki Multi Deluxe #80; a modern UTTO/multipurpose transmission oil (e.g. SAE 80 GL-4 or a 10W-30 UTTO) is the practical equivalent. Second: in cold weather, the oil is thick and the hydraulic pump struggles to draw it in. The factory explicitly warns about this — warm up the engine before loading the lift (see the warm-up table in our operating blog), otherwise you'll hear the pump "whine" and it may suffer damage.

Replace the transmission oil for the first time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours. Clean the hydraulic suction filter immediately with every oil change. Check the level via the sight glass/dipstick on the transmission housing.

Iseki TM15 & TM17 front axle oil

The driven front axle has its own oil bath of 2.7 liters, also using #80 oil. Check the level every 100 hours and replace the oil every 600 hours. Milky, gray oil indicates water in the front axle (for example after working in wet ground) — in that case, change it immediately.

Iseki TM15 & TM17 coolant

The cooling system holds 5 liters. Use a mixture of water with long-life antifreeze (LLC) and replace it annually. Check the level daily at the cap or expansion tank — but never open the radiator cap when the engine is hot: the system is under pressure and steam or boiling water may spray out. A clean radiator is at least as important as the fluid itself on these small tractors: during tilling work, the fins clog with dust and chaff, leading to overheating.

Iseki TM15 & TM17 lubrication

The manual indicates grease nipples on the center pivot, the clutch pedal, the brake pedal, and the steering and tie rods. Grease every 50 hours with lithium grease; if you work frequently in wet or abrasive soil, grease daily.

💡 Shop4trac tip: Every oil change should include a fresh filter: the engine oil filter (SKU-002/6) has the exact original OEM number 6213-240-002. Is the engine running hot or are you unsure about the cooling? Check the thermostat 82°C (SKU-45014) and the temperature sensor (SKU-910002).
