Hinomoto C142 and C144 hitch, PTO and hydraulics: how it works

How do the hitch, PTO and hydraulics of the Hinomoto C142 and C144 work? Read how the shared oil, pump and hitch control are interconnected and what values the workshop manual specifies.

Hinomoto C174 compact tractor with rotary tiller on the linkage and PTO in a field

Suitable for the entire series: Hinomoto C142, C144, C172 and C174. The technical values are taken from the workshop manual of the C142 and C144. The C172 and C174 are not included in that manual. Capacities and adjustment values for those models have not been confirmed.

Hinomoto C142 and C144 shared oil and hydraulic pump

Transmission, rear axle and hydraulics share the same oil, approx. 17 L. The hydraulic filter therefore also filters the transmission oil. There is no separate strainer in the system, only the spin-on filter on the left side of the transmission housing.

The hydraulic pump is a gear pump mounted on the timing gear case. The camshaft gear drives it. Allow a new pump to run in at idle and without load for approx. 30 minutes first.

Tip: you can find the pump as Hydraulic pump (SKU-115008). The filter is the Hydraulic filter (SKU-250014).

Hinomoto C142 and C144 hitch control and lowering speed

The hitch is operated with a lever featuring an adjustable stop. The lowering speed is adjusted with a rotary knob on the lift cover.

Adjust the stop so that the pressure relief valve does not keep blowing when the hitch is raised all the way.

Why does the hitch jerk? The pump is not receiving enough oil. Replace the hydraulic filter and the oil. If the tractor is cold, let it warm up first.

Hinomoto C142 and C144 pressure relief valve

The hydraulic relief pressure of the hitch is 139 to 144 bar. The pressure relief valve on the C142 and C144 is located on the left side of the lift cover. The pressure is adjusted using shims: 1 mm is approx. 14 bar.

How much pressure does the hitch deliver? 139 to 144 bar. This is the adjustment value of the pressure relief valve.

Hinomoto C142 and C144 PTO with freewheel

The PTO rotates at 540 rpm and is engaged with a lever. It has a built-in freewheel. A mid-PTO is only present on the hydrostatic version. A front PTO was an option, featuring an electric clutch from the crankshaft pulley.

If the PTO is leaking oil, you need the PTO oil seal 40x55x10 (SKU-96078).

Hinomoto C144 and C174 PTO power

The power figures below are indicative and do not come from the workshop manual.

C142 / C144 C172 / C174
Engine Toyosha CS86 Toyosha CS100
Gross engine power (indicative) 17 hp 19.7 hp
PTO power (indicative) unknown approx. 14.8 hp

On the C172 and C174, the PTO power is therefore lower than the gross engine power. Keep this in mind when choosing a driven implement.
