Iseki TA winterizing & storage (TA207–TA317)

An Iseki TA Landleader that's stored properly will start in spring without any hassle. The original manual for the TA series dedicates a whole chapter to storage – below you'll find the key points, supplemented with practical tips for the Dutch climate.

Suitable for the entire series: Iseki TA207, TA227, TA247, TA263, TA267, TA287 and TA317 (2WD and 4WD).

Iseki TA daily and short-term storage

For daily storage, the manual gives five rules. Clean the tractor, especially after wet work or working on soggy ground – caked-on mud retains moisture, and that means rust. Fill the fuel tank up: a full tank prevents condensation and thus water in the diesel. Always lower the implement to the ground, store indoors if possible, and cover the machine with a tarp outdoors. Set the parking brake, remove the key, and never leave the lift in the lock position waiting for someone.

Winterizing the Iseki TA

For winter storage, a few extra points come into play. In severe cold, remove the battery and store it dry, dark, and frost-free – not on a cold concrete floor. Recharge it occasionally during storage, so you'll be able to start it in March without jump leads. Check that there's enough antifreeze in the cooling system; the manual explicitly warns that the engine block can crack if the coolant freezes. Grease all lubrication points, set the tires to the correct pressure, and touch up any bare spots in the paint – especially with outdoor storage.

Long-term Iseki TA storage: don't forget the engine

For storage longer than a few months, it pays to change the engine oil beforehand: used oil contains acids that attack bearings and cylinder walls while the machine is idle. During the storage period, occasionally run the engine until warm (not just briefly at idle) so condensation disappears from the engine and exhaust, and the clutch doesn't rust onto the flywheel. You could also lock the clutch in the depressed position – a seized clutch plate is a well-known surprise after a long, damp storage period.

Iseki TA after storage: checklist for the first start

Before the first outing of the season, run through the daily check from our Iseki TA maintenance schedule : oil level, coolant, fuel filter (drain water!), tire pressure, V-belt tension, lighting, and the operation of the warning lights. Connect the battery, preheat properly in cold weather, and let the engine warm up gently before putting load on the lift and PTO. If you notice the lift responding slowly or jerkily after winter, give the system time to reach operating temperature first – cold gear oil is thick.
