Good maintenance is the reason a Yanmar F195, F215, or FX265 still runs effortlessly after more than thirty years. Here is the complete maintenance schedule from the original factory manual, including all adjustment values.
Suitable for the entire series: F195(D), FX195(D), F215(D), FX215(D), F235(D), FX235(D), F255(D), FX255(D), F265(D) and FX265(D).
| Component | Interval |
|---|---|
| Change engine oil | first time after 50 hours, then every 100 hours |
| Replace engine oil filter | first time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours |
| Change transmission oil | first time after 50 hours, then every 300 hours (check level every 50 hours in between) |
| Replace hydraulic filter (line filter) | every 300 hours |
| Change front axle oil (4WD) | every 300 hours (check level every 50 hours) |
| Power steering oil (P version) | change every 300 hours |
| Air filter element | check/clean every 50 hours, replace after 400 hours (at least once a year) |
| Replace fuel filter element | every 300 hours (clean filter bowl every 100 hours) |
| Coolant | check level before each use, replace annually |
| Clean radiator screen and cooling fins | every 50 hours (in dusty conditions: every working day) |
| Grease all lubrication points | every 50 hours, and always after working in wet conditions |
| Check V-belt | every 100 hours (new belt: re-tension after 50 hours) |
| Battery: fluid level / charge status | check level every working day / check every 100 hours |
| Electrical wiring and fuel lines | check every 50 hours; replace rubber hoses and lines every 2 years |
| Retighten important bolts and nuts | every 100 hours |
| Valve clearance and injectors | every 600 hours (workshop) |
The manual also recommends an annual major service at a specialized workshop, even if the operating hours haven't reached the intervals. Replacement parts such as hoses and lines should be replaced every two years regardless, regardless of hours.
These values come directly from the factory manual and are the same for the entire series:
| Adjustment | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Brake pedal free play | 30 – 40 mm | max. 5 mm difference left/right; adjust with the tensioning screw behind the pedal |
| Clutch pedal free play | 15 – 25 mm | adjust with the tensioning screw, retighten the locknut |
| Steering wheel free play | 20 – 50 mm | outside this range: have it adjusted by a workshop |
| V-belt deflection | 10 – 15 mm | press down in the middle with your finger; tension via the alternator |
| Front wheel toe-in | 4 – 8 mm | rear measurement minus front measurement; adjust via the tie rod end |
| Front tire pressure | 2.0 kgf/cm² (max. 3.0) | ≈ 2.0 bar |
| Rear tire pressure | 1.0 kgf/cm² (max. 1.6) | ≈ 1.0 bar |
The fuse box is located on the firewall on the clutch side, above the starter motor (remove the side panel). Always use the specified values:
| Fuse | Circuit |
|---|---|
| 5 A | indicator lights, voltage regulator, fuel gauge, water temperature gauge |
| 10 A | turn signals, horn |
| 10 A | work light, UFO power supply, glow relay |
| 15 A | headlights, tachometer, instrument panel |
The reverse buzzer fuse is located separately in the wiring harness under the seat. There is also a fusible link (main fuse); a discolored outer casing indicates it has blown.
Grease every 50 hours: the clutch and brake pedal shafts, the steering rods (drag rod and tie rod) and the front axle center pin supports. The F/FX215 through F/FX265 also have a grease nipple on the parking brake shaft. After working in mud or water: always grease immediately and press out the contaminated grease.
💡 Product tip: planning a service? With the Yanmar F-series filter set, a V-belt (F215–FX255) and the hydraulic filter you have everything you need for a complete 300-hour service.
