The hydraulics, the PTO shaft and the implements make the Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 and MT240 versatile. On this page you'll learn how the position control and the PAC depth control work, which PTO speeds are available and — honestly — what you can realistically do with 16 to 24 hp.
Suitable for the entire series: Mitsubishi MT160, MT170, MT190, MT200, MT220 and MT240 (all 4WD).
The three-point linkage (special 3-point, JIS category 0) works with position control: the implement follows the position of the lift lever and stays at a fixed height. With the stopper you can set the maximum lift height, so you always return to the same height. In addition, these tractors have PAC depth control (automatic depth control) for tilling work: the tractor automatically maintains the set tilling depth — moving the lever forward sets it deeper, backward shallower.
The PTO has three speeds, so you can run a tiller, mower or spreader at the right speed. Some versions also feature a reverse PTO (reversed rotation direction) for specific implements.
| Model | PTO speeds |
|---|---|
| MT160 / MT170 / MT190 | 532 / 832 / 1355 rpm |
| MT200 / MT220 / MT240 | 564 / 809 / 1321 rpm |
All models are 4WD. On the MT200–MT240 you engage the front axle with a lever; the MT160–MT190 are permanently 4WD. Four-wheel drive is especially useful for: pulling work on wet or loose soil, front loader work, working on slopes (less chance of slipping and tipping), and driving on and off the field. On paved roads, disengage the front axle (where possible) to save the tires.
Important to know: the stated engine power is not the same as the power at the PTO or the drawbar pull — some is lost in the drivetrain. In practice, an MT160–MT190 works well with a light tiller, a flail mower, a small tipper and spreader, and with soil work on a horticultural scale. Thanks to their extra power, eight-speed gearbox and optional creep gear, the MT200, MT220 and MT240 have more room for a heavier tiller, a front loader and a soil bucket. True plowing work on heavy clay falls outside the comfort zone of this class.
Various implements and extensions are available for the MT series, such as a front loader with bucket, a rotary harrow/tiller, counterweights for extra balance, and an extra valve set (sub-valve kit) to control double-acting cylinders on, for example, a loader or tipper. If you often switch implements, a quick coupler on the lift is recommended.
