The hydraulics and PTO shaft turn the Yanmar Ke-13, Ke-14, Ke-16 and Ke-18 into full-fledged work machines. In this article: how the lift and the automatic controls work, which rotary tiller fits which model, how to use the external hydraulic connection, and what you can realistically do with 13–18 hp.
Suitable for the entire series: Yanmar Ke-13, Ke-14, Ke-16 and Ke-18 (all versions).
The lift works with a 2P attachment for the rotary tiller and features both a position control and an automatic setting. The auto-rotary function automatically keeps the tilling depth constant via the depth lever; on U versions, the electronic EG-UFO also automatically keeps the implement level, even on sloped or bumpy ground. If the lift doesn't work, first check whether the hydraulic shut-off valve is open — according to the troubleshooting table, this is the most commonly overlooked cause. The hydraulics run on the transmission oil (7.0 L TF-500/UTTO, see the oil and fluids guide).
The rear PTO shaft turns at 553 rpm (setting 1), 928 rpm (setting 2), or 722 rpm in reverse PTO, all at 2500 engine rpm. The tiller shaft turns at 167, 280, and 218 rpm respectively. Only operate the PTO lever with the clutch depressed, and note: with the PTO lever engaged, the engine will not start (start safety lock).
| Model | Standard tiller width | Possible widths |
|---|---|---|
| Ke-13 | 1100 mm (RK110) | 1100 mm (side/center) |
| Ke-14 | 1200 mm (RK120/RK120C) | 900–1200 mm |
| Ke-16 | 1300 mm (RK130) | 1000–1400 mm |
| Ke-18 | 1400 mm (RK140) | 1100–1500 mm |
Yanmar supplied side-drive tillers (RK100–RK140, 24–34 blades) and center-drive tillers (RK090C–RK120C, 26–32 blades). The combination table in the manual shows that you can always fit one size smaller; larger than standard only on the heavier models. When ordering tiller blades, always state your rotor type.
For a single-acting cylinder (tipping trailer), the Ke series has an external hydraulic outlet with a PF 3/8 connection behind a hex plug; UFO versions have an in/out block (PF 3/8). For the standard version, a connection kit is required (Yanmar kit 198421-42200, for reference). Procedure according to the manual: lower lift lever, close shut-off valve, remove plug, fit the implement's hose, and operate with the lift lever. There is also an external 12V power connection for a work light (continuous max. 7 A, peak 20 A — fuse in the fuse box).
PTO power determines the tiller width (see table), while the weight of ±600 kg determines the pulling force. Realistic for the entire series: tilling, a crumbler roller or weeder harrow, a rotary mower up to ±1.2 m, a tipping trailer of 750–1500 kg on flat terrain, and light soil cultivation. Thanks to the larger engine, the Ke-16 and Ke-18 noticeably handle more work in heavier soil. Track width can be adjusted in three settings (see the specifications) — set it wide when working on slopes.
Product tip: hydraulics sluggish or steering heavy? Fresh transmission oil plus a clean oil strainer is often the solution. Do it together with the filter set Yanmar Ke-13 through Ke-18 (SKU-10090) in one service session.
