For its class, the Yanmar EG series has a surprisingly smart lift system: position and automatic control, adjustable lowering speed, automatic lift in reverse and on turns, and auto tilling-depth control. Below we explain how to get the most out of the hydraulics, PTO and implements of the Yanmar EG220 through EG230 for optimal use.
Suitable for the entire series: EG220, EG222, EG224, EG227 and EG230 — including the Q (cab), U (Nicety UFO), X (J-change) and J (high speed, e.g. EG227J and EG230J) variants.
The three-point hitch (special 3-point) lifts up to 11.7 kN (1,200 kgf) and works with both position and automatic control. You raise and lower the implement using the implement lift switch and the lift lever. Key settings:
The PTO has three speeds plus reverse:
| Model | PTO speeds |
|---|---|
| EG220 / EG222 / EG224 | 543 / 776 / 1,170 rpm (+ 673 rpm reverse) |
| EG227 / EG230 | 549 / 786 / 1,184 rpm (+ 681 rpm reverse) |
Choose the PTO speed specified for the implement. Never run an implement designed for a low PTO speed at a high speed — this will damage the implement.
With the auto tilling-depth control function, the tractor automatically keeps the tilling depth constant. Set the desired depth with the tilling-depth dial:
| Depth setting dial | Application |
|---|---|
| 1 – 2 | border tilling / shallow work |
| 2 – 3 | general tilling |
| 3 and higher | deep tilling |
Important to know: engine power (20–30 hp) is not the same as drawbar pull. A large part is transmitted via the PTO to powered implements. Realistically, with the EG series you can:
For heavy or powered work, choose a low gear with the auxiliary transmission in the creep or low setting; for transport and road work, use the high setting instead. The bias steering function (speeding up the front axle in turns) makes tight turning at the headland much easier — but never use it on the road or on slopes.
