Kubota B1830-B3030 engine oil & fluids

Kubota B1830-B3030 engine oil and fluids: complete guide

Which engine oil should go into a Kubota B2530? And how much transmission oil goes into a B3030 hydrostatic? Below you'll find all fluids, specifications and capacities for the entire series, straight from the workshop manual.

Suitable for the entire series: Kubota B1830, B2230, B2530 and B3030 (gear-drive and HST, ROPS and cab).

Kubota B1830-B3030 engine oil: specification and capacity

Kubota specifies engine oil with API classification CD, CE or CF — in other words, a diesel oil. Choose the viscosity based on the outside temperature:

Temperature Viscosity
Below 0 °C SAE 10W, 10W-30 or 10W-40
0 to 25 °C SAE 20, 10W-30 or 10W-40
Above 25 °C SAE 30, 10W-30 or 10W-40

For the Dutch climate, a 10W-30 or 10W-40 is therefore the logical year-round choice; a 15W-40 diesel oil (API CD or higher) is also widely used in practice for the season above freezing. Sump capacity including filter: 3.0 litres for the three-cylinders (B1830, B2230, B2530) and 4.1 litres for the four-cylinder B3030. Change interval: every 100 hours; oil filter every 200 hours (and at the first 50-hour service). Check the level daily before starting, with the tractor on level ground.

Kubota B1830-B3030 transmission and hydraulic oil

On this series, the transmission and hydraulics share a single oil reservoir — so the transmission oil also serves the lift, the power steering and (on HST models) the hydrostatic drive. Kubota specifies KUBOTA UDT or Super UDT as the recommended oil; a quality UTTO oil (GL-4) with the same specifications is the common alternative. Never use ordinary engine oil or ATF: HST models will immediately respond with noise and loss of power.

Version Transmission capacity
HST (B2230/B2530/B3030) 17 litres
Gear-drive with Bi-Speed Turn 16.5 litres
Gear-drive without Bi-Speed Turn 15 litres

Change every 300 hours, along with the transmission oil filter — and mandatory at the first 50-hour service. After changing, let the machine warm up and check the level again: on HST models, any trapped air must first be bled from the circuit.

Kubota B1830-B3030 front axle oil

The driven front axle has its own oil bath: 3.7 litres (B1830/B2230/B2530) or 4.7 litres (B3030). UDT oil or SAE 80/SAE 90 transmission oil (GL-4) is specified. Change every 300 hours. A point often overlooked — especially on tractors doing a lot of front loader work, since that's when the front axle works hardest.

Kubota B1830-B3030 coolant

The cooling system holds 4.5 litres (ROPS) or 5.2 litres (cab versions, including the heater circuit). Use clean water with antifreeze/coolant and replace every 2 years, flushing the system in the process. Check the level daily in the expansion tank and keep the radiator screen clean — a clogged radiator is the number one cause of overheating during mowing on this series.

Kubota B1830-B3030 fuel and other fluids

Diesel tank: 27-28 litres (B3030: 31 litres). Use winter diesel below −10 °C. Cab models also have a 1.5-litre windscreen washer tank. Grease the lubrication points (top link, lift arms, HST pedal, battery terminals) every 50 hours with NLGI-2 grease — see also the Kubota B1830-B3030 maintenance schedule.

Tip from Shop4trac: want to order everything at once? The engine oil filter + engine oil set (SKU-15W402/5) fits the B1830, B2230 and B2530. For transmission and lift there is GL-4 UTTO transmission/hydraulic oil (SKU-15W402), for the front axle 80W90 front axle oil (SKU-80W90) and for the cooling system coolant rated to −40 °C (SKU-125001).
