Description

New 8-tooth starter motor for the small Volvo Penta sailboat diesels MD2010, MD2020, D1-13, and D1-20, and for standalone Perkins 102-05, 103-07, 402D-05, and 403D-07 engines. This is the Mitsubishi M2T47281 version, Perkins 185086540, and Volvo Penta 3803904. A direct 1-to-1 replacement for the original: same 77 mm spigot, same 8 teeth, and the same solenoid position.

Please note:

Several starter motors exist for these engines that look identical at first glance. Therefore, always count the teeth and check the part number on your old starter motor:

• This version can be identified by Mitsubishi M2T47281, Perkins 185086540 or 185086370, or Volvo Penta 3803904, 3840888, 861845, or 23140597: 8 teeth and a 77 mm spigot.
• The 1.1 kW version with 9 teeth (Hitachi S114-381, Bosch 0001107078, Perkins 185086321, Volvo Penta 3580295 and 3801350) is fitted to the Volvo Penta MD2030, MD2040, D1-30, and D2-40, and to some Perkins 102-05 and 103-07 engines. • The Perkins 403D-07 in the JCB 8008 CTS and the JCB 15C-1 to 19C-1 uses a different starter motor: 1.2 kW with 9 teeth and a 74 mm spigot (Hitachi S114-218, JCB 714/40460). You can find that one here: starter motor Perkins 403D-07 | JCB 8008 CTS 1.2 kW.
• Car starter motors from Hyundai and Mitsubishi (including Mitsubishi M2T40081) also have 8 teeth and a 77 mm spigot, but the solenoid is positioned at a different angle (+35° instead of +55°) and the nose cone is less open. These do not fit properly on Volvo Penta and Perkins engines.
• Volvo Penta 24539580 is the current replacement part number. Versions with 10 teeth are also in circulation for this. Count the teeth on your old starter motor: this starter motor has 8.
